Muta Stacking As An Ability
Not really pushing for this to be in SC2, just sort of thought about it and would like some oppinions.
So i was playing a game where my Terran opponent didn’t want to gg and instead built 50 turrets on an island expo and wasted my time. I had built many void rays and carriers and before i attacked i witnessed them stack and just thought to myself how ugly it looks and how it would be more confusing for spectators. However, in Broodwar, muta stacking was really cool, and even though all air units could stack, it became iconic to the mutalisk. Thats really the only thing that stood out in the unit. Otherwise it is a pretty boring unit. So i was thinking, since muta stacking in Broodwar is basically the only reason(at least that i can think of) air stacking is still there in SC2, and since stacking isn’t working as nicely for mutas currently, maybe air stacking should be removed from the game and mutalisks should have stacking as a special ability or mode.
How it would work:
It would be like sieging a tank in that it doesn’t cost energy and it would be like merging HT’s into an archon in that the ability would only be selectable when more than one mutalisk is selected. Once in that mode, mutalisks would go into an animation where they stack and keep flying in circles within a small and confined space(as big as an archon maybe). They would all essentially become one unit, the muta swarm, but unlike the archon it can be reversed. The more mutas selected the bigger the ball would get(in order to let people know whether to fear the clump) and when attacking with the clump selected it would do the damage of all mutas. The clump would be real weak vs splash so archons and storms would own them. As the clump of mutas gets attacked and looses hp it would get smaller and the attack would do less damage, and you would see blood falling or something suggesting mutas have fallen. Any splash damage however would be multiplied by the ammount of mutalisks in the clump. I really haven’t thought the whole thing through THAT much, just popped into my head yesterday.
The Advantage to Merging all your Mutas:
Since the real advantage in Broodwar was that the enemy couldn’t target a muta individually, it wouldn’t be the same since making the enemy attacking the merged mutas constantly deal damage to a random muta in the clump would be too random.
So maybe it should just give a defense boost or something… idk
Would also get rid of ugly air stacking by the way…
Decent idea? or should i just lock this one up and throw away the key?
